You may wish to use the prayers below as pre-prepared prayers to read in church, or as guidelines for your personal prayers.

Lord,

We thank you for the privilege of being able to enter into your presence to worship you. Thank You that in some countries we are free to meet together in Your name. Forgive us when we neglect to rejoice in corporate worship and fail to love our church families.

Father, so many of Your children are prevented from worshipping you freely. Thank you for the example of Daniel who continued to worship You even in the face of danger. May his story give strength to Christians who face similar situations today. Give them courage and peace as they serve You first and foremost.

We pray also for those Christians who live in isolation from other Christians, unable to experience the joy of fellowship. We pray that the Holy Spirit will comfort them in their loneliness, and in the fullness of time bring them into a church family.

Help us to use our freedom and privileges on behalf of those who have no voice. May the letters that are being written as part of The Right to Justice campaign be effective in calling governments to allow Christians to worship.

Amen

Lord,
We thank You for the recent years of freedom in Algeria which have allowed Your children there to share the message of the Gospel of Your Son Jesus Christ with their neighbours; we thank You that so many have responded to the Saviour and now call You Father. Bless them and keep them, teach them and strengthen them. May they grow in knowledge of Your ways and Your Word.

As they now face the prospect of renewed persecution and difficulties, help them to stay courageous, trusting in You that You have not abandoned them and still know the plans You have for them, for good and not for evil.

Father, in Your Word You tell us to not give up meeting together. Forgive us Lord that we have taken for granted our own freedoms to meet together in safety and comfort. We lift to You our Algerian brothers and sisters who will no longer be able to meet as freely as they have in the last few years. We pray that the new regulations will not be enforced too strictly and that Algerian Christians will continue to meet publicly and privately to worship You and encourage one another. We pray that You will give them wisdom to know how to respond to their new circumstances, that those who do not know You will see their faith and give You glory.

We pray for the Algerian authorities, that they will cease to see Christians as a threat, but will acknowledge the good influence that Christians bring to society.

In all things we pray that Your will be done,

Amen

Lord,

We lift to you our many brothers and sisters who endure insults, persecution, and degrading circumstances, because of their love for You. Help them to keep their eyes fixed on the Cross, and on the reward promised to them in Heaven (Matt 5 v11-12). We lift them before Your throne of grace and ask that You give them Your peace which passes all understanding. We remember also our responsibility to meet their physical needs to assist them to lift themselves out of poverty.

Thank You that as Your children, wherever we are, You will always hear our cry for justice. We pray that laws which discriminate on the basis of faith will be overturned.

Amen

Lord,

You teach us in Your Word to pray for all those in authority. We lift to You those men and women who have been elected to authority in our nations, who have the power and influence to alter the lives of our brothers and sisters who suffer for Your holy Name. As we bring the afflictions of our brothers and sisters in Christ to the attention of our governments, help these men and women to respond with compassion. We ask for a positive response from our elected representatives and others to whom we write. We ask that you will give them wisdom to know how to affect change for former Muslims who have chosen to follow you, Lord Jesus, that they may be free to do so without fear of violence or harassment.

We lift before Your throne of grace our brothers and sisters who have suffered violence, who have been forced to leave their homes or families. Give them your peace and heal their wounds.

Amen

Gracious Father,

We thank you that you are a God of justice. Today we lift to you our brothers and sisters who live with injustice because they bear the Name of your precious Son Jesus Christ. We pray that you will hear their cries and in your mercy bring them comfort and peace. We pray for your protection over them in all circumstances. Help them to follow the example of our Lord Jesus, who taught us to love our enemies, responding not with violence but with forgiveness. In so doing may they bear witness to you, and cause their persecutors to honour your Name.

Amen

Father,

Thank you for the freedoms which some Christians have to campaign on behalf of others. We pray for your blessing on the Right to Justice campaign, that many of your children will be stirred to raise their voices on behalf of their brothers and sisters who live with daily injustice, harassment or persecution. In accordance with your Word we pray for those in authority in the countries where institutional and societal discrimination against Christians is seen, that they will respond positively to this campaign and act to bring about justice for all their citizens irrespective of their faith.

We pray this in the Name of the Lord Jesus, Amen.
